The Valley in Summer
If you don't want to spend your entire summer holiday on the mountaintop, the old town of Sterzing/Vipiteno, the most beautiful small town in Italy, and the surrounding area are ideal starting points for a day of shopping or exploration. There is a wide range of fun things to do in town, including performances at the theatre, movies, a tennis match, a round of golf, horseback riding, paragliding, or the Balneum swimming centre. However, if you decide not to stay in Sterzing/Vipiteno, Brixen/Bressanone and Innsbruck are not far away. Both towns can be reached by car or train from Sterzing/Vipiteno in less than an hour. Like Sterzing, Brixen and Innsbruck are wonderful towns with lots of culture, shopping options, and beautiful streets.
the Gilfenklamm/Cascate di Stanghe gorge near Ratschings/Racine is another idea for an exciting excursion. The trail takes you in about one hour over various suspension bridges and stairs through the middle of a rocky gorge, where you can enjoy a breath-taking view down below.
Of course, passionate golfers or those who want to become one will be right at home in Sterzing/Vipiteno. The old town has a golf club in the valley, just a five-minute drive from the Sterzing/Vipiteno motorway exit. The course also has a driving range and seven practice holes ideal for beginners.
The Valley in Winter
Are you looking for special highlights that you can experience during the winter months in and around Sterzing/Vipiteno? The Christmas market and the Balneum swimming centre are just a few of the many things you can see and do! During the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Advent market in Sterzing/Vipiteno takes over the town with the small, but beautiful little houses offering a variety of delicacies, mulled wine, clothing, and products for daily home use, including typical South Tyrolean products. Immerse yourself in South Tyrolean tradition and be enchanted by the music, the aromas, and the magical atmosphere.
is the Balneum in Sterzing, with an outdoor pool in summer and an indoor pool and sauna open year-round. Especially in winter, the Balneum is certainly worth a visit if you want to unwind after a cold day in town.
